Minnesota Vikings have a chance to do the funniest thing in their Week 18 game vs. Green Bay Packers
Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers just got a little bit easier for the Minnesota Vikings.
The Minnesota Vikings have a chance to do the funniest thing next weekend when they face the Green Bay Packers in the final game of the season.
Going into the game, the Packers hoped to be playing with a chance to win the NFC North. However, a 41-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night took that away from the Packers. They are now 9-6-1 and locked into the seventh seed.
Minnesota Vikings will have an easy path to win vs. bitter rival
While we don’t know when the game will be played next weekend, we do know that the Vikings will have an easier time getting their fifth consecutive victory. The Packers will rest key players next week before entering the playoffs as the seventh seed for the third consecutive year.
Nobody can blame the Packers for wanting to rest players ahead of their playoff game the following weekend, especially with their multitude of injuries. Quarterback Jordan Love missed Saturday’s loss with a concussion, and running back Josh Jacobs has been dealing with injuries for weeks. Getting as healthy as possible should be a priority for the Packers.
On the Vikings’ side, they are riding a four-game winning streak after starting the season 4-8. Ahead of their Week 15 game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Vikings were eliminated from the playoffs. That hasn’t changed how the Vikings have played over the past few weeks, including their dominant performance from Brian Flores’ defense, and they have a chance to finish the year with a winning record.
Where things get funny is the Vikings finishing with nine wins but missing the playoffs because of the tie the Packers had with the Cowboys. If they had lost the game, the Vikings would have made the playoffs with a win, as they would have had the common-opponents tiebreaker. It would be peak Vikings to win five games in a row and still miss the playoffs by the thinnest of margins.
Even so, it’s advantageous for the Vikings to win the game to build culture and momentum into the offseason. The draft pick will be worse than fans would like, but it’s always good to beat your biggest rival.
