Texas QB Arch Manning dropped a comment about Peyton Manning that will bring a huge smile to Steve Spurrier’s face
Texas QB Arch Manning hit his uncle, Peyton Manning, with a stray after beating Michigan in the Citrus Bowl
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning hit Peyton Manning, his uncle, with a stray on Wednesday that will undoubtedly bring a huge smile to Steve Spurrier’s face.
Arch led the Longhorns to a win against the Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl on Wednesday. After the game, Arch was named the MVP of the Citrus Bowl.
Nearly 30 years ago, Peyton was named the MVP of the Citrus Bowl after leading the Tennessee Vols to a 48-28 win over Northwestern. It was Peyton and the Vols’ second straight appearance in the Citrus Bowl.
On Wednesday, Arch was asked how it felt to be named the MVP of the Citrus Bowl like his uncle was 29 years ago.
“Nothing against the Citrus Bowl, but I think he played in it twice,” said Arch. “I don’t want to have to play in it twice.”
Spurrier, of course, made one of the most famous college football jokes of all time ahead of the 1997 season.
“I know why Peyton came back for his senior season,” said Spurrier in 1997. “He wanted to be a three-time Citrus Bowl MVP!”
Peyton only has one Citrus Bowl MVP to his credit (Vols running back Jay Graham was the MVP of the other Citrus Bowl that Peyton played in), but that’s still one of the most memorable one-liners in college football history.
And I’m sure Spurrier had a laugh on Wednesday if/when he heard Arch’s Citrus Bowl quip.
