One of the top 5-star recruits in the nation dropped an interesting comment about the Tennessee Vols
The Tennessee Vols are looking to put together another elite recruiting class.
2027 five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.
Matthews, 6-6, 300 pounds from Fort Lauderdale, FL, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
The elite offensive lineman has offers from essentially every big-time program in the sport.
Tennessee Vols aren’t among Mark Matthews’ top schools, but that could change
Miami, Texas A&M, and Ohio State are Matthews’ top three schools.
That list, however, could change.
Matthews told 247Sports this week that his top three could “fluctuate 100 percent,” before pointing out that the Tennessee Vols are “maybe” a school that could sneak into his top three.
“It can definitely change,” said Matthews to 247Sports. “Who knows where I will be? I am going to be a lot of places this spring. Those are the ones standing out, but they can definitely change. Maybe Tennessee can hop up there.”
Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, LSU, Nebraska, and Notre Dame are also in the mix for Matthews.
Matthews doesn’t have any visits scheduled yet for the spring, but it goes without saying that Tennessee will need to receive a visit to have a real chance to be among the five-star recruit’s top schools.
The Volunteers have four players committed to their 2027 recruiting class.
