Transfer player that arrived at Tennessee with a lot of hype is reportedly entering the transfer portal again

The Tennessee Vols have a lot of transfer portal movement happening as 2026 gets underway.

One of the Tennessee Vols’ most popular transfer additions from a year ago is officially on the move again.

Last January, wide receiver Amari Jefferson transferred from Alabama to Tennessee.

Jefferson, a former four-star recruit from Chattanooga who is also a talented baseball player, signed with Alabama over Tennessee as a recruit during the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The Tennessee native, however, wasn’t able to make an impact for the Vols in 2025. As a result, Jefferson, who didn’t record any stats with Tennessee in 2025, is re-entering the transfer portal.

Will Tennessee add a wide receiver from the transfer portal?

The Vols aren’t in a spot where they have to add a wide receiver from the transfer portal.

At least that’s the case for now.

If all of Tennessee’s top wide receivers return in 2026 — which includes Braylon Staley, Mike Matthews, Radarious Jackson, Travis Smith, and Joakim Dodson — then it seems unlikely the Vols would pursue a transfer wide receiver. Tennessee simply wouldn’t have much playing time to offer (especially with true freshmen wide receivers Tristen Keys and Tyreek King on the way next fall).

Things can change quickly when it comes to the transfer portal. But for now, wide receiver doesn’t appear to be a position that Tennessee will be targeting in the portal.
