It’s become increasingly more likely that the Indianapolis Colts will move on from Anthony Richardson this offseason

Since the regular season ended, we’ve heard from Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon, head coach Shane Steichen, and general manager Chris Ballard, and each refused to commit to the QB being back with the team in 2026.

The team plans to bring Daniel Jones back as its starter next season, but while he was great in 2025, there’s obvious risk involved with re-signing him due to him tearing his right Achilles tendon. A new 2026 NFL mock draft gives the Colts an option to develop for the future.

Colts select Alabama on QB Ty Simpson in a new mock draft

“I’m not sure where the Colts go from here at quarterback, but with Simpson officially declaring for the draft, it feels like a major slam dunk to find someone with his upside in round two.” – New A to Z Sports 3-round mock draft

This season was Ty Simpson’s first year as a full-time starter at the collegiate level. He finished the year with the 11th most passing yards and touchdowns in the country, with 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns. And he ended the year with only five interceptions.

Things haven’t worked out for the Colts after they selected Richardson after just one season as a starter. So taking another in Simpson wouldn’t be the ideal approach for some inside the team’s front office.

The talent he possesses, however, will excite many teams. At one point this year, some believed he would be in play to be the number one overall pick. Landing him in the second round would minimize the risk for the Colts, and if he is able to reach his potential, he would feel like a massive steal in the second round.
