The Tennessee Vols have made several big-time transfer portal additions over the last week, but there’s still more work to be done.

Tennessee is still in need of multiple defensive linemen, a running back, and a quarterback. The Vols could also benefit from adding some more secondary help.

Two of the Vols’ top remaining portal targets are Alabama transfer defensive linemen James Smith and Qua Russaw.

Both players recently visited Tennessee.

Smith totaled 48 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks over the last two seasons at Alabama.

Russaw, meanwhile, compiled 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two interceptions over the last two seasons in Tuscaloosa.

On3’s Pete Nakos predicts Alabama duo will commit to Ohio State

On3 college football insider Pete Nakos predicted on Monday that Ohio State will land Smith and Russaw. Nakos, though, listed his confidence level as “low” for this prediction.

“With the three-day dead period, Russaw and Smith are expected to enter decision mode,” wrote Nakos. “The early buzz following the visits favors Ohio State, which has been seeking to add transfer talent to its front seven.”

Transfer decisions can change quickly, so it’s not like the Vols are out of this. We’ll see if Tennessee can ultimately beat out Ohio State for the Alabama duo.
