Will Muschamp is working to bring a talented Tennessee Vols transfer to the Texas Longhorns
A Tennessee Vols transfer defender could be suiting up for the Texas Longhorns in 2026.
New Texas Longhorns defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is working to bring a Tennessee Vols transfer defender to Austin.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Texas will host Vols EDGE transfer Caleb Herring on a visit this weekend.
Wiltfong noted that Muschamp, who was hired by Texas after the 2025 regular season wrapped up, is “leading the charge in pursuing Herring”.
Herring has already visited the Miami Hurricanes and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and he’s set to visit the South Carolina Gamecocks later this week.
Miami, for now, is viewed as the favorite for Herring. But it’s certainly possible that Texas could vault to the top of this battle with a strong visit this weekend.
Herring, who has one season of eligibility remaining, totaled 25 tackles and five sacks while playing in 36 games for the Vols over three seasons.
Will Muschamp doesn’t have many friends in East Tennessee
I’m not positive on this, but I don’t think the Will Muschamp fan club has a chapter in Knoxville.
Muschamp made sure he’s forever on the bad side of Vols fans a little over a decade ago when he dropped some trash talk in a postgame interview immediately after Florida beat Tennessee 10-9 in 2014
“It’s great to see all these people out here getting disappointed,” said Muschamp, who was let go as the head of the Gators later that season.
Muschamp will return to Knoxville in 2026 when the Longhorns visit Neyland Stadium to take on Tennessee.
We’ll see over the next few days if Herring will be suiting up for Texas in that game. According to Wiltfong, Herring is expected to make a transfer decision by Sunday.
