A 2027 five-star recruit that was supposed to visit the Tennessee Vols this weekend is no longer making the trip to Knoxville.

Tennessee is one of the top schools for 2027 five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney.

Sweeney, 6-4, 230 pounds from Olney, MD, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 EDGE in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland. He was supposed to visit Tennessee this weekend, but that trip got canceled.

Sweeney is still high on the Vols — he’s simply skipping his visit to Tennessee this weekend so he can get some rest after playing in the Under Armour All-American Game.

“I’ve decided to bypass Tennessee and allow my body to continue to rest after that game,” said Sweeney to 247Sports.

“It’s an amazing place,” added Sweeney of Tennessee. “Always loved being down there. My family always loves being down there. The atmosphere, it’s like a real family down there, too.”

Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Maryland are also in the mix for Sweeney.

This is a recruiting battle that will heat up over the next few months.

Tennessee is certainly hoping to get Sweeney on campus multiple times before he makes his college decision later this year.
