Minnesota Vikings make necessary change on their coaching staff, and it’s one the fanbase has been asking for
The Minnesota Vikings announced they would not be retaining offensive line coach Chris Kuper after four seasons with the team.
The Minnesota Vikings have made their first move on the coaching staff, choosing not to renew Chris Kuper’s contract after four seasons with the team.
Kuper was one of head coach Kevin O’Connell‘s first hires when he took the job in 2022. He was Mike Munchak’s assistant for the Denver Broncos, with the idea being that O’Connell wanted that style of OL play. Despite a lot of talent on the offensive line, the Vikings haven’t been consistent.

Kuper did a good job of developing some players on the roster. Christian Darrisaw took a leap to superstardom under Kuper’s watch, and you could see the development happen before your eyes. He is also responsible for elevating Blake Brandel to a starting-caliber player, including teaching him to play center, a position he’d never played before the NFL.
Even so, there were issues. Ed Ingram has shown some serious growth in Houston after being a starter for three seasons in Minnesota. They weren’t couldn’t get more out of Garrett Bradbury during his three seasons working with him, and the Vikings’ offense struggled massively with stunts during all four seasons.
This is likely the first of many staff changes for the Vikings, as O’Connell looks to improve his team after a disastrous 9-8 season. We are still waiting on a decision from defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has begun interviewing with other teams. The other coaches on the offensive side of the football that could also be on the move are offensive coordinator Wes Phillips and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
The offseason has only just begun for the Vikings.
