The Tennessee Vols have been very productive in the transfer portal this month.

Tennessee has addressed numerous needs — mostly on the defensive side of the ball (there weren’t many transfer needs offensively for the Vols) — over the last couple of weeks.

The Volunteers, though, still have a few areas on their roster that could stand to be bolstered.

The transfer portal officially closed on Friday, so no one new can enter (unless they played for Miami or Indiana or there’s a coaching change). Everyone that’s in the portal, however, can still transfer to a new destination.

Vols insider details which positions Tennessee could still target in the portal

VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Wednesday for his weekly appearance and he was asked which positions Tennessee could still be targeting in the portal.

Price noted that adding an interior defensive lineman and another cornerback would be beneficial for the Vols.

“If they could find a defensive lineman that could help them, an interior guy, that’d be great,” said Price. “Finding a third corner (is also a possibility). Again, who goes in from Indiana or Miami? And then, who even potentially goes in later today from a school that found out late last Friday that a kid was going to go in and they didn’t have to do anything during the weekend or on Monday. So the 48 hours started Tuesday.

“Again, it’s interior defensive line [and] cornerback. Tennessee’s gonna have a couple of receivers in (for visits) later today. But those are depth pieces, right? Right now, they’re trying to fill up the 105 (roster spots) because now there’s 105 scholarships and no walk ons, instead of just 85 scholarships and a bunch of walk ons. But Tennessee’s trying to add quality depth there.”

Price pointed out Florida Gators defensive line transfer Brien Taylor as a player that Tennessee is still in the mix for (Taylor visited Tennessee last week).

Based on Price’s comments, the Vols are mostly looking for depth options at this point in the transfer cycle. But you never know, Tennessee might find a hidden gem late in the process that proves to be a key addition (like they did with Colton Hood last spring).
