Pros of Germie Bernard

  • Bernard as a plus football IQ. Understands how the defense is playing him and attacks accordingly.
  • With the ball in the air, Bernard does a great job tracking it in the air. He doesn’t wait for the ball to come to him, choosing to attack it instead.
  • Is a very smooth, technical route runner. Makes cuts without losing momentum, making in and out-breaking routes look effortless.
  • Bernard has excellent hands. On 232 targets, Bernard has just four charted drops in his career.

Cons of Germie Bernard

  • Bernard is not an overly twitchy athlete. Doesn’t possess a lot of snap in his movements, making his route running less explosive. It also hinders him after the catch, as he struggles to evade defenders in open space.
  • Top-end speed isn’t there with Bernard. He’s likely going to run in the 4.5s and won’t breakaway from defenders.

Background

Germie Bernard was a four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class per 247 Sports. He started his career with Mel Tucker at Michigan State, but spent just one season in East Lansing before heading to Washington. He was the fourth wide receiver on the national championship runner-up at Washington, and chose to follow offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to Alabama. With the Crimson Tide, Bernard became a reliable possession receiver and maximized his output in 2025 with 64 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns.

Player Evaluation

Bernard was never the focus of the passing offense, but he is a talented player. A true possession receiver, Bernard isn’t a twitchy athlete, but he is a technician with his movements. Route running isn’t explosive, but he runs crisp routes with consistency. Bernard doesn’t snap off routes, but he doesn’t lose momentum when running breaking routes. He also doesn’t drop the ball, displaying strong hands with consistency. You won’t see Bernard leave anyone in the dust after the catch, but he is capable with the ball in his hands.
