Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel embarrasses former Vol in awkward press conference moment ahead of AFC Championship game
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel accidentally (maybe) embarrassed a former Vol on Friday.
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel accidentally (we think) embarrassed a former Tennessee Vols standout on Friday.
The Patriots are set to take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
Vrabel met with reporters on Friday afternoon, and he was asked about former Vols defensive lineman Darrrell Taylor, which led to an awkward press conference moment.
Reporter: “How’s Darrell Taylor gotten acclimated so far?”
Vrabel: “We released Darrell Taylor. We’ll put that out here at 4:00. So, not very well.”
Ouch.
Taylor was signed by New England last week ahead of the Patriots’ divisional round matchup against the Houston Texans.
It’s possible that New England signed Taylor, who was released by the Texans earlier this month, to gain some intel on Houston.
Either way, Taylor’s time with the Patriots was very short-lived. And it ended with a very awkward moment.
Darrell Taylor is no stranger to viral moments
Taylor is certainly no stranger to viral moments.
The former Vol famously went viral before Tennessee played Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016 after he dropped an iconic pre-game quote: “We gonna whoop they f—ing ass”.
Another memorable moment involving the former Vol came in 2022 when the Seattle Seahawks intercepted a pass and Taylor, thinking the play was over, ran onto the field to celebrate with his teammates.
The play, though, was not over. So Taylor started throwing some blocks.
I really can’t wait to see what’s next for Taylor — I’m sure it’ll be entertaining.
