A former Tennessee Vols standout will play in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday after getting elevated from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.
Seattle elevated former Vols wide receiver Velus Jones Jr from the practice squad for the NFC Championship game.
Velus Jones will serve as running back depth for the Seahawks against the Rams
Jones, a former USC wide receiver who transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2020 season, is now a running back in the NFL.
The former Vol will serve as running back depth for the Seahawks against the Rams (he can also return kicks if called upon).
Seattle was in need of running back depth with Zach Charbonnet now out for the season.
Jones, a third-round selection by the Chicago Bears in the 2022 NFL Draft, has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and the New Orleans Saints.
The Alabama native has totaled 197 rushing yards and one touchdown in his NFL career. He also has 12 receptions for 135 yards and one touchdown.
Jones was drafted by Chicago after a breakout season in 2021 at Tennessee, in which he caught 62 passes for 807 yards and seven touchdowns.
Unfortunately for Jones, he hasn’t found that same level of success in the NFL. But on a positive note for Jones, he’s only two wins away from a Super Bowl ring.
The Seahawks and the Rams will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
