Analyst details how Tennessee Vols forward Nate Ament is currently viewed as an NBA Draft prospect
Tennessee Vols true freshman forward Nate Ament has been on a tear lately.
Tennessee Vols true freshman forward Nate Ament has had some uneven performances this season, but the former five-star recruit has been on a tear recently.
Ament has scored at least 17 points in each of his last four games, including a career high 29 points in Tennessee’s win against the Alabama Crimson Tide this past Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
There’s no doubt that Ament has NBA All-Star upside (maybe even MVP upside, but it’s premature to put that on anyone), he’s just been searching for consistency as he adjusts to life in the SEC.
“Nate’s been good all year,” said Vols head coach Rick Barnes after the win over Alabama. “I’ve said it from the beginning — he’s a guy that is playing a position he’s never played. In high school, he was more of a four or five kind of player. He’s played on the perimeter pretty much exclusively. We’ve gone with him at the four a couple of times, but not very much. But what he’s learning to do, as much as we try to adjust him to the physicality that he was going to see, it’s something that you have to live. And he’s lived it.
Where Nate Ament currently ranks among NBA Draft prospects
On3’s Jamie Shaw revealed his first NBA Draft Big Board on Monday and he currently has Ament ranked at No. 6.
“All it can take is one good game to get back in the good graces of NBA Scouts, and Nate Ament has strung off four,” noted Shaw. “He got off to a decidedly slow start, but has picked it up during SEC play. Ament has an intriguing blend of size, feel, and ball skills that made him a consensus five-star coming out of high school…He will need to continue adding strength, but he is streamlining his offensive approach, getting to his spots, and playing better through contact. The upside continues to intrigue.”
Ament certainly seems to be finding his groove and playing confidently. And as long as he continues to play with confidence, he’ll continue to get better and better as Tennessee marches its way toward the NCAA Tournament.
