The Philadelphia Eagles surprised some people with a risky hire at offensive coordinator. In a move to get younger along their coaching staff, Sean Mannion emerged and got the job to replace Kevin Patullo.

Mannion provides NFL playing experience and some time under Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur to headline his resumé for landing the position. Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak had a gleaming review of Mannion recently that has caught some eyes on social media.

Why Klint Kubiak believes the Eagles made the correct decision with Sean Mannion hire

During media availability ahead of the Super Bowl, the Seahawks OC was asked about new Eagles OC Sean Mannion. He’s a believer in the young assistant, and he even called Mannion a “gem of a coach” as it relates to Philly landing him to call plays.

Why should Eagles fans care about that? Well, Kubiak is one of the most well-respected offensive minds in the current NFL. He was a target and strong candidate of nearly every head coaching search this offseason, and he is expected to be the next HC of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Additionally, Kubiak coached Mannion for three seasons with the Vikings from 2019 to 2021 when he was a quarterback in the pros. He understands how Mannion processes the game and expects him to build on his short coaching stint with the Packers to make influential improvements for the Eagles unit.

The Eagles’ decision to hire Mannion has been perceived as one with legitimate risk for Nick Sirianni, but it does truly look like a smart swing based off reactions around the league.

Philadelphia may be early on him, but taking that jump is better than settling for a more well-known commodity as OC who possesses less upside.

Klint Kubiak expected to take Raiders head coaching job after Super Bowl

I discussed the Raiders reportedly landing Kubiak and how this sort of praise is meaningful because of his connection to Mannion with Justin Churchill, who knows the Vegas organization well.

“The Las Vegas Raiders got their guy in Klint Kubiak. After having a new head coach every single year for the last five years, they seem set on giving Kubiak some breathing room and allowing him to actually rebuild this franchise.

It’s going to take time, but going the young route that’s teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Beats went, could end up paying off.

Kubiak seems like the perfect fit for the team who’s set to draft Fernando Mendoza, with weapons like Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers. If there’s anyone who knows anything about offense, it’s the guy who came in and turned around the Seahawks offense, and is expected to do the same with a Vegas unit that has been near the bottom of the league every year offensively since 2021.” — Churchill
