There was a bragging right, and maybe a record, if you want to call it that, up for grabs on Sunday. The Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots was one that saw the Chiefs have some skin in the game, even though they weren’t in it for the first time since 2021.

The Chiefs are the last AFC team to win the Super Bowl, obviously. However, they are the only AFC team to win the Super Bowl since the New England Patriots won it in 2018, when they beat the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, and went on to beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. That’s seven years that the Chiefs have been the team in the AFC, and no one else is good enough to beat an NFC team in the Super Bowl. That’s a pretty awesome bragging right that they get to keep.

This just shows how dominant the Chiefs have been, but also that they need to get their stuff together if anyone wants to stop the NFC’s streak.

The Super Bowl just showed that the Chiefs can get back

There’s no disputing that this team has a ton of needs that need to be addressed before the start of the 2026 season. Doing our last five-round NFL Mock Draft showed that, easily. However, they have free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft to address some of those manageable needs.

It will be impossible to fix everything, but that’s okay, and these 2025 NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl showed that’s okay. This season, there was no one elite team in the AFC that could win the Super Bowl. There was no one team that stood out above the rest as the biggest or ultimate threat in the Buffalo Bills, but even they weren’t great and lost to the Denver Broncos, another bad football team. There is more parity than ever before, and that’s because the Chiefs aren’t in the postseason.

The Patriots playing as badly as they did showed the Chiefs can make it back next year. They just have some things to fix, like the pass rush and the running game, and they’re already a much better team than last season. Then again, that’s a lot easier said than done.
