The Tennessee Vols are reportedly “very much in play” for an elite 2027 defensive lineman.

2027 four-star defensive lineman Ben’Jarvius Shumaker is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.

Shumaker, 6-3/285 pounds from Ackerman, MS, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 44 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

Tennessee is a team to watch for Ben’Jarvius Shumaker

247Sports’ Tom Loy noted this week that Ole Miss and Mississippi State are programs to watch for Shumaker, as he reportedly has interest in staying close to home.

Loy, however, also noted that Tennessee is “is very much in play as well.”

Shumaker is in the process of finalizing his official visit schedule.

“This is going to be a very important offseason for me,” said Shumaker to 247Sports recently of his recruitment. “There are a lot of decisions that I am going to be having to make. I am going to have to decide on where to go for official visits, combines, etc. This is a time for me and my family to just think about what we think are going to be the best situations for us. I want to be able to be in the best position that I can be in.”

Landing Shumaker over the in-state schools won’t be easy for Tennessee, but the Vols are clearly going to shoot their shot here.

Alabama and Kentucky are also in the mix for Shumaker.
