Lane Johnson’s potential playing future takes another twist after latest LeSean McCoy comments about Eagles OT
The former running back believes Johnson has more in him.
The Philadelphia Eagles may need to overhaul their offensive line unit next season. There is a reality where they are without both Lane Johnson and Landon Dickerson, after the unit took a step back already in 2025.
That being said, LeSean McCoy believes that the prior of those two key lineman isn’t done playing quite yet. The former Eagles running back made that clear recently.
LeSean McCoy believes that Lane Johnson will return for 2026 season
McCoy has remained active in sports media since hanging up his cleats. He made his thoughts on Lane Johnson’s potential retirement clear recently on Speakeasy, a sports talk show hosted by McCoy and others. McCoy says he talked to Johnson, and the veteran offensive tackle plans to return and not retire yet.
McCoy also noted that he doesn’t know about offensive guard Landon Dickerson’s status for next season. He’s reportedly also mulling retirement due to injuries.
Of course, this sort of proclamation can be taken with a grain of salt. McCoy may not know for sure about Johnson’s status, even if he did discuss it with the offensive lineman. Johnson could also change his mind. We are still early on in the offseason process.
The loss of Jeff Stoutland may also play a role. The fantastic offensive line coach for the Eagles recent announced he was leaving the organization, throwing yet another curveball to anyone planning to play OL for Philly next season and beyond.
Johnson will have plenty of factors to consider, including his health as well. Johnson played in his lowest total of game since 2020 last season. He suited up in ten games but missed a bulk of the back half of the campaign, including the postseason loss for the Eagles.
We’ll see if Johnson gets back out there for Philadelphia, but a former fan favorite player is still holding out hope that the Pro Bowler can give the Eagles at least one more season.
