Hendon Hooker says Jalin Hyatt wasn’t the fastest player he threw the ball to at Tennessee
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker had some fast receivers on Rocky Top.
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker had some fast wide receivers to throw the ball to during his time on Rocky Top.
Most fans would probably expect Hooker to single out Jalin Hyatt as the fastest wide receiver he threw the ball to at Tennessee.
Hyatt, for example, looked like the fastest guy in the SEC during a game in Baton Rouge against the LSU Tigers in 2022.
I remember watching that play live and thinking that Hooker had overthrown Hyatt.
Despite Hyatt’s obvious blazing speed, Hooker thinks another Tennessee wide receiver was faster.
Hendon Hooker says Velus Jones Jr was faster than Jalin Hyatt
Hooker recently joined former Vols teammate Joe Milton on Snapback Sports.
The duo guessed former Vols players by their in-uniform photos.
After Hyatt’s photo popped up, Hooker was asked if he was the fastest player he threw the ball to at Tennessee.
“No, Velus Jones is faster,” responded Hooker.
Both players are ridiculously fast. Jones, however, ran a 4.31 at the scouting combine in 2022. Hyatt, meanwhile, ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash in 2023 (Hyatt, though, had a tight hamstring while running the 40-yard dash).
Regardless of which one is faster, neither of those are losing many races to anyone.
