Dallas Goedert’s expected departure from Eagles may open the door for Philadelphia to bring back a fan favorite on offense
He’s been a rival recently, but he could return during free agency.
The Philadelphia Eagles will have plenty of new faces next season. With a massive free agency period looming next week and beyond, they may also have an opportunity to bring back a familiar face – depending on what tight end Dallas Goedert decides to do with his future.
Dallas Goedert may move on from Eagles in free agency
According to Matthew Berry, the Eagles will be moving on from the veteran tight end. Goedert’s time in Philadelphia has been a successful tenure, but it could be coming to a close.
“While many of the Eagles headlines these days are about whether A.J. Brown will stay or go, one player I’m told that will definitely be moving on from Philly this offseason is Dallas Goedert.”

Potential reunion with Eagles for TE Zach Ertz
The 35-year-old tight end is coming off a season-ending injury, but he is expected to be cleared close to Week 1 – according to Tom Pelissero. He wants to play another season, so he’s expected to sign a deal during free agency.
Ertz certainly has lost a step in terms of athleticism, but he totaled 50 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns in just 13 games for the Washington Commanders last season. He can still contribute in the passing game, undoubtedly.
Ertz ranks 5th in catches and 8th in yards among tight ends in NFL history. He spent 2013-2021 in Philadelphia before joining the Arizona Cardinals from 2021-2023. Ertz spent 2024 with the Detroit Lions then spent 2024 to present day with Washington.
Eliot Shorr-Parks has also reported that the Eagles are expected to be interested in free agent tight end David Njoku. The former Cleveland Browns pass catcher announced his intention to not return to the Browns earlier this offseason.
Should Ertz return to Philly? Fans would probably be excited to see him back in green, but they also may want a bit more overall firepower at the TE position for the future of their offense.
