Jermaine Johnson is not even trying to hide his Titans free agent recruiting efforts to fill out Robert Saleh’s defense
Jermaine Johnson isn’t hiding the ball even a little bit on a reunion with a former teammate of his in Tennessee next week.
The Tennessee Titans made a splashy move during the week of the Combine to trade DT T’Vondre Sweat to the Jets for EDGE Jermaine Johnson. Johnson was a first round pick during Saleh’s tenure in New York and was emerging as an impact player when he tore his achilles in 2024. Now he enters a critical contract year back with some of his favorite old coaches, and he is openly campaigning for a former teammate to join him in free agency.
New Titans EDGE Jermaine Johnson isn’t hiding this free agent move online
There has never been a more pre-signed player in NFL free agency than Broncos DT John Franklin-Myers is with the Titans this month. I wrote about this inevitability in my Titans Combine intel piece which you should read the rest of right here.
This is a foregone conclusion in the eyes of the league. Franklin-Myers is one of the only defensive lineman of note in this free agency pool, and he’s played at a high level the past two seasons. But it seems personal connections will win the day on this one and he will be in Tennessee, where their roster needs align with his services.
On Tuesday, Jermaine Johnson tweeted this not-so-cryptic message at Franklin-Myers.
Next Wednesday, March 11th, is when the starting bell of free agency will officially sound and contracts can be finalized. Johnson clearly expects to see news of his old friend Franklin-Myers signing with Tennessee.
He’s been doing this since being trade to the Titans last week, sending an earlier message about the impact Franklin-Myers has had on the ferocious Broncos DL the past couple of seasons.
Franklin-Myers himself hasn’t kept this secret online either. When the Titans hired assistant DL coach Tanzel Smart to Saleh’s staff last month, Smart posted about his career move on Instagram. Franklin-Myers, who we know loves Saleh and DL coach Aaron Whitecotton, apparently loves Smart as well. Because he commented “you thinking what I’m thinking?” on the post.
So nobody should be surprised when the Titans lock up a new starter on their defensive line next week to kick off free agency.
