Los Angeles Rams aren’t in any hurry to find potential successor to Matthew Stafford any time soon
Les Snead shuts down any speculation the Rams are concerned about figuring life out after Matthew Stafford.
Throughout the offseason (and prior ones), the Los Angeles Rams have been linked to several top quarterback prospects in an effort to produce a successor to Matthew Stafford. The Rams have kept trucking along, but that hasn’t stopped those on the outside from saying “Surely this is the year it happens!”.
It doesn’t sound like it will this year, as general manager Les Snead more or less shut down any interest in the Rams acquiring Stafford’s heir this offseason.

Les Snead sounds off on Rams replacing Stafford
At their presser this week, Snead and McVay echoed that Stafford’s health is “always on their mind” but that they are focused on maximizing Stafford and not replacing him.
“I think I’ve mentioned it before,” Snead said Tuesday. “We’re always working through the scenarios. We’re well aware Matthew’s closer to retirement than not. Matthew and I had a fun text chain or call the night that Philip Rivers was playing a Thursday night game. He was on date night and I’m like, ‘This guy’s 44.’ That was a joking thing, but let’s call it like it is. We’ve all been honest on that. We’re not desperate to. That’s always a possibility, but it’s not a desperate matter.”
“I’m not naive to how rare that is,” McVay said. “All those things weigh into it. I think he’s said it a lot. I think with the time Matthew missed last year, and it was such a cool reflection of his humility and just what a great, aware person Matthew is….Then looking towards the future but how we want to be able to approach it? That position is so vital for us to be able to allow Matthew to be at his best.”
The Rams are gearing up for what feels like one final all-in year with Stafford at the helm, and they’re already pulling out all the stops to shore up their weaknesses. While they certainly need to solve their backup quarterback spot if Jimmy Garoppolo leaves, they don’t seem to be close on replacing Stafford anytime soon.
