‘After that, Tiger Woods became the biggest Cooper Manning fan of all time’ – Peyton Manning tells hilarious never-before-heard story
Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning dropped a classic Tiger Woods story.
There aren’t many storytellers more entertaining than Tennessee Vols legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.
Peyton’s self-deprecating style and his always-looking-for-a-laugh demeanor, combined with decades of stories, make him one of the ultimate storytellers.
So it should be no surprise that Peyton dropped a smorgasbord of incredible stories during his appearance this week on his brother Cooper Manning’s “We Need a Fourth” podcast, which is co-hosted by sports media personality Kenny Mayne and actor Brian Baumgartner (AKA Kevin from The Office).
Peyton Manning drops hilarious Tiger Woods story
One of the stories that Peyton told during his appearance on the podcast was about Cooper’s first time meeting Tiger Woods.
Cooper first met Tiger around 2005, which is when the legendary golfer was at the height of his career.
Most folks don’t know what to say when they first meet Tiger, which can make things a little awkward.
Cooper, however, quickly broke the ice by offering to let Tiger use his 9 wood.
“Real quick, a Cooper Manning golf story,” said Peyton. “We play with Tiger Woods, not to name drop, on the very first hole — Cooper’s never met Tiger. Tiger’s kind of feeling him out. We’re down in Florida playing and on the first fairway, Cooper says, ‘Tiger, anytime you want to borrow my 9 wood today, just grab it. You don’t have to ask me, just have at it.’ Cooper has a lot of woods. He’s very accurate. He hits it straight, but not so far due to some old injuries. But after that, Tiger Woods became the biggest Cooper Manning fan of all time.
“Because most people don’t know what to say to the guy. And this is, what, 2005? I mean, to say he’s in his prime would be an understatement. It’s me, Cooper, Bubba Watson and Tiger and Hank Haney…but when [Cooper] told [Tiger] he could borrow his 9 wood, I’m telling you, I’ve never seen a guy go, ‘Alright, I like this guy. This is my kind of guy.’”
Unfortunately, Peyton didn’t reveal if Tiger took Cooper up on his offer to use his 9 wood.
