Well, it certainly didn’t take long for the Minnesota Vikings to be linked once again to quarterback Kyler Murray. Once the new league year started, all the insiders were quick to link the Vikings to quarterback Kyler Murray.

It’s not out of the question that Murray gets his career fixed under Kevin O’Connell, as Sam Darnold did in the 2024 season.

Minnesota Vikings are close to signing Kyler Murray

It wasn’t just Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport who were on top of this, but CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones said as much right before 3:00 P.M.’s start of the new league year.

“I don’t know why the Cardinals are waiting until 4 P.M. Eastern, like right on the dot, but when he does get released, the heavy, heavy assumption and belief is from folks around the league is that he will then agree to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, pending a physical,” said Jones. “We have to say that now all the time, like that was always one of those things like, Oh yeah, it’s a caveat. But I’m going to not say that, because we all get it now. I have to say it, pending a physical, Kyler Murray will very, very likely be the next Minnesota Vikings quarterback all.”

Murray has all the talent in the world to maximize the offense under O’Connell, and he will have the best group of weapons he’s ever worked with led by Justin Jefferson.

Where things are going to get interesting is seeing how much O’Connell modifies the offense for Murray. He throws over the middle over 60% less than what Darnold did in 2024, and that doesn’t exactly fit. However, O’Connell has been willing to change his offense for his other quarterbacks.

It’s only a matter of time before he ends up putting pen to paper.
