Minnesota Vikings make the obvious decision regarding wide receiver Jordan Addison
With the Minnesota Vikings having salary cap issues, they made the smart decision regarding the future of wide receiver Jordan Addison and his fifth-year option.
Earlier this offseason, reports surfaced that the Minnesota Vikings had budgeted for a Jordan Addison extension. That is still the case, as Addison is going to be with the franchise for at least one more season. The Vikings are going to pick up his fifth-year option, securing him with the team through the 2027 season.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Vikings are making this move, as his fifth-year option is worth $18 million for the 2027 season. That’s not exactly a lot of money for a player of Addison’s caliber.

Interim general manager Rob Brzezinski spoke to the local media, informing them of the decision, and offered a clear rationale behind the decision.
“He’s a really important player for us, an impact player,” Brzezinski said. “We’re definitely exercising the option. For sure. The deadline for that is after the draft.”
It shouldn’t be considered an issue to give Addison the fifth-year option. Yes, his career hasn’t been the cleanest with the Vikings, as he’s had multiple legal issues. His first offseason saw him get a citation for driving 140 mph on an interstate in Minnesota. Then, he got arrested on two charges for allegedly driving under the influence in 2024. In 2025, he was suspended for three games for that arrest and was benched for the first quarter of their Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns
Even so, Addison has been an explosive wide receiver opposite of Justin Jefferson. Over his three-year career, Addison has 175 catches for 2,396 yards and 22 touchdowns, along with two touchdown runs.
Addison is in line for a big extension, potentially worth more than $100 million over four years. Getting him for just $18 million in the first year is important for the future of the salary cap.
