Tennessee Vols named an early program to know for coveted transfer forward
The Tennessee Vols are expected to be aggressive in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason.
The expectation this offseason is that the Tennessee Vols will be aggressive in the NCAA transfer portal.
Tennessee had a great season in 2025-26 — anytime a season ends with a trip to the Elite Eight, it’s success — but the Vols’ blowout season-ending loss to the Michigan Wolverines showed that UT has to build a stronger roster next season if they’re going to reach the Final Four.
In a sense, Tennessee’s loss to Michigan was a wake-up call for the basketball program just like the Vols’ loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff in 2024 was a wake-up call for the football program.
Tennessee named an early team to watch for coveted transfer forward
The Vols are already showing interest in several transfer players, including Belmont guard Tyler Lundblade, who was in Knoxville for a visit early this week.
Tennessee is currently viewed as the favorite to land Lundblade.
Tennessee was also named this week as an early team to watch for Troy transfer forward Thomas Dowd.
“Dowd had a dominant season at Troy, averaging a double-double (14.4 points and 10.1 rebounds),” noted On3’s Joe Tipton. “His Troy coach Scott Cross recently accepted the Georgia Tech job, but sources say he plans to explore his options beyond just Tech. Dowd will be recruited at a high level, with schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee among the early programs to know for the Dothan, AL native… He’s also not expected to rush a decision and will likely take two to three visits before committing.”
Dowd, 6-foot-8/225 pounds, would give Tennessee another physical presence in the post.
It’s still early in the transfer cycle, so we’ll see how things shake out. But the Volunteers clearly aren’t messing around after coming up short against Michigan.
