Steelers make NFL history as part of the international series for 2026 with European contest against the New Orleans Saints
The Pittsburgh Steelers will once again be playing overseas this season, only they will be doing it in a first-time location.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are known for being one of the more historic franchises in the history of the National Football League. With that rich history and tradition comes one of the most active and deep-rooted fan bases in all of professional sports.
But that fanbase doesn’t end in America, as the black and gold can be seen being donned all over the world. That’s part of why the NFL sent the Steelers to Ireland for their first-ever regular-season game in 2025, and it’s why they will do the same with the Steelers in 2026.
Facts about Steelers 2026 season
- Pittsburgh will have a new HC for the first time since 2007.
- The Steelers will attempt to have 23 consecutive non-losing seasons.
- AFC North will feature three new coaches (Browns, Ravens, Steelers).
Steelers to play Saints in the first-ever NFL game in Paris, France
Last year, the Steelers took on the Minnesota Vikings in Ireland, coming away with a victory in what was a homecoming for the Rooney family. The Steelers brass immigrated from Ireland to Pittsburgh, and you could see the overwhelming support for the Steelers in the land of green.
This year, it will be the Saints’ territory. New Orleans features some of the richest French traditions in the entire United States, so it was only right that they be featured for the inaugural competition in Paris.
NFL continues to grow the game globally
The biggest news here is that the global expansion of the NFL isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Of course, the league will be back in London this year, and we know that they are returning to Madrid after a stellar debut there as well.
Week 1 will even feature an Australian contest, as the NFL truly aims to play on every corner of the globe. Of course, there are logistical things to sort out, and the later in the season these games are played, the less likely teams will be to enjoy them, but it’s a business at the end of the day, and the goal is to keep that business operating at a high level.
