Former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is someone who takes a lot of barbs from Vol fans even to this day. And it’s not hard to understand why. From brick-by-brick to being champions of life, Jones’ attempts at motivation never hit home during his five seasons in Knoxville.

But to at least some of his former players, the ex-Tennessee head coach still has their respect. Or at least that’s the case with fan favorite former Vol Joshua Dobbs.

Dobbs’ teammate at Tennessee Josh Smith posted a message on Twitter (X) saying “congrats Josh and Jocelyn”. Included in the post was a picture of Dobbs, Jones, and a number of former Vols at Dobbs’ wedding.

And to any questioning that, Dobbs re-tweeted Smith’s post.

It’s not too surprising that Dobbs and Jones would have a close relationship. Jones’ relative success in Knoxville came with Dobbs under center in 2015 and 2016.

The Vols went 9-4 in both seasons, sweeping the Georgia Bulldogs along the way. They ended Florida’s 12-year reign of terror over the Vols with a 38-28 win in Knoxville in 2016. They also won back-to-back bowl games, knocking off No. 13 Northwestern in the Outback Bowl 45-6 in 2015 and handled Nebraska 38-24 the next year in the Music City Bowl.

Both men’s careers went in opposite directions after Jones’ ouster at the end of the 2017 season. Dobbs just wrapped up his ninth season in the NFL and was a part of the AFC champion Patriots last season, while Jones has posted a 26-37 mark at Arkansas State since 2021.

But at the end of the day, Dobbs and Jones still apparently have a close enough relationship such that the former invited the latter to be a part of his biggest day. And you have to respect that.
