The Tennessee Vols are responsible for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ summer getting off to a sad start.

Mahomes, who is set to return to action in 2026 after tearing his ACL last season, is a proud Texas Tech alumnus.

So it’s no surprise that Mahomes was deflated to see the Lady Vols’ walk-off win over Texas Tech in the College World Series on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s the reaction from Mahomes immediately after the game went final.

And in case you somehow missed Tennessee infielder Emma Clarke’s walk-off home run — or if you’re a Vols fan who wants to rewatch it for the 500th time — here’s the clip.

Mahomes is a passionate supporter of all Texas Tech athletics. There’s no doubt he was genuinely bummed to see the Red Raiders fall to the Lady Vols on Saturday.

But fortunately for Mahomes and Texas Tech, the season isn’t over quite yet.

What’s next for Tennessee and Texas Tech?

The Lady Vols advanced to the College World Series semifinals thanks to Clarke’s walk-off home run.

Tennessee will play the winner of Sunday’s matchup between Texas and Nebraska on Monday. The Lady Vols will advance to the College World Series finals with a win. If Tennessee loses, they will have to play a second game immediately after the first game.

Texas Tech, meanwhile, will play an elimination game against UCLA on Sunday. If Texas Tech wins that game, they will have to win twice on Monday against Alabama to advance to the College World Series finals.

So there’s a chance Texas Tech can salvage the start of Mahomes’ summer, but it’s going to take three straight wins for the Red Raiders to get to the College World Series finals — where a potential rematch with the Lady Vols could await.
