‘It was wild’ – Vanderbilt guard drops some strong quotes about Tennessee Vols fans
There were rumors earlier this spring that Vanderbilt Commodores guard Tyler Tanner was interested in entering the transfer portal and joining the Tennessee Vols basketball program.
Earlier this spring, there were rumors that Vanderbilt Commodores star guard Tyler Tanner was considering entering the transfer portal so he could join the Tennessee Vols basketball program.
There were never any legitimate reports connecting Tanner to Tennessee, but the rumors persisted nonetheless.
Tanner told The Tennessean this week that there was never anything to the rumors.
“Tennessee fans were thinking I was going there for whatever reason… I don’t know where y’all got this information,” said Tanner.
“People even after the portal had closed were like, ‘Nah, he’s coming to Tennessee. I’m like, ‘I’m not coming to Tennessee.’ It was wild.”
Tanner, who is from Brentwood, TN, averaged 19.5 points per game as a sophomore last season. It’s easy to see why Vols fan were hoping to see the 6-foot guard in orange and white, but it sounds like it’s a scenario that was never really on the table for Tanner.
The only decision Tanner was weighing was whether to return to Vanderbilt or enter the 2026 NBA Draft.
And Tanner ultimately decided, late last month, to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to Vanderbilt.
Tanner reportedly made his final decision about 12 hours before the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline.
