Sooners land a player in the 2027 recruiting class that hopefully doesn’t make another one’s future with OU a bit wishy-washy
The Oklahoma Sooners have landed a commitment from a player in the 2027 recruiting class who may give the Sooners a bit of déjà vu.
The Oklahoma Sooners already have one quarterback committed to their 2027 recruiting class. Jameson Roberts is a guy they wanted badly and pushed hard for. The Mobile, Alabama, QB is a dual threat with some pretty insane potential.
However, the Sooners have landed a commitment from a player in the 2027 recruiting class who may give the Sooners a bit of déjà vu. On Sunday, OU landed Noah Smith, a 2027 quarterback from Lawton, Oklahoma. Teams don’t usually carry two quarterbacks in their class. So, here is where the deja vu part comes in.
Last season, the Sooners were hooked on Jaden O’Neal, a four-star quarterback. He committed and even moved to Oklahoma for high school football. Then, Ben Arbuckle started visiting with Bowe Bentley, the quarterback currently on the roster. Ultimately, O’Neal decommitted, and Bentley committed. Could this be another situation like that one? Maybe. Or, maybe it’s not. I certainly doubt it is based on Smith’s recruitment.
Maybe this is just a situation where it’s an in-state kid whose dream is to just be a Sooner, and he’ll be a guy at the end of the depth chart who just sits and learns for a year before transferring. We don’t know what will happen, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on. For now, though, who is Noah Smith?

So it feels like the Sooners may have a diamond-in-the-rough quarterback in Smith. He’s 6’3, 210 pounds, but hasn’t received any major offers from Division 1 schools. He had three offers, all from Division 2 or JUCO programs. Smith doesn’t actually even have a rating.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t good. And that certainly doesn’t mean Smith won’t have a rating by the time he is on campus. But there are a million high school football players in the country. So, he just hasn’t been seen yet, is all, at least not by many. The Sooners see something, though.
