The Oklahoma Sooners have had nothing but success in their 2027 recruiting class, that is, until this week. Don’t get me wrong, they still had a successful week with the Sooners Elite Camp happening, and plenty of offers being handed out.

However, they just lost two receivers in their 2027 recruiting class this week alone. First, Demare Dezeurn, then Tra’Von Hall. Then, they lost out on a few recruits who were considering the Sooners and had upcoming visits scheduled with OU.

Oklahoma loses out on defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion

First, it was Gideon Gash to Texas Tech, and he’s one of the best players in the country. Now, it’s four-star defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion.

He’s the teammate of Sooner commit and elite cornerback Mikyal Davis, and Sooner target for 2028, Nekhi Lambeth. So, maybe OU felt that would help them, but it turned out it doesn’t even matter. Zion, the No. 9 player in Arizona, has the ideal size for the defensive line that Venables likes.

He’s 6’4, 270, and has great arm length. The Sooners would have been able to use him. Now, Wisconsin will use him, that is, if he stays committed to Wisconsin. Zion is also the No. 9 edge rusher in the country and a top-350 player. Oklahoma came in second, then LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia, according to Rivals. He visited with OU more than any other school but LSU, and had another visit lined up for Friday, June 12.

The Sooners have visits lined up for several recruits this upcoming weekend. First, it’s three-star athlete Jaiden Fields on Thursday. Then, on Friday, they have visits lined up with 12 players, three of whom have not yet committed. The Sooners are not done with this class yet, but they are adding the finishing touches.
