The Las Vegas Raiders selected Mike Washington Jr., a standout among this year’s rookie running backs. Washington brings a versatile skill set to the team and is poised to serve as an ideal complement to Ashton Jeanty. Now he’s ready to prove every team wrong that didn’t draft him.
Recently, a video of Washington Jr. was taken, and he was not very happy about being drafted where he was drafted. Not the location; he’s excited to be a Raider. But he’s upset so many teams passed on him. He feels that none of the guys taken before him should have been. And he should feel that way; he’s a competitor.
Mike Washington can be the perfect backup to Ashton Jeanty
This pairing has the potential to develop into a formidable backfield tandem. With Washington on board, Jeanty could reach new heights in the upcoming 2026 season. Even though Jeanty impressed as a rookie, sharing the workload could benefit him as he continues to grow in his career. Despite being part of the league’s lowest-ranked offense last season, he nearly surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark.
Jeanty was tasked with a heavy workload, finishing seventh in carries (266) but only eighteenth in total rushing yards. Remarkably, 780 of his 975 yards came after contact, and he topped the league with 43 broken tackles.
During his college career, he logged 750 carries in three years at Boise State and more than 1,000 over four seasons. Washington’s arrival is a strategic move to support Jeanty and revitalize the Raiders’ running game.
Standing at 6’1” and 223 pounds with 33-inch arms, Washington boasts an impressive 4.33-second 40-yard dash. While he may not possess Jeanty’s vision or agility when changing direction, his breakaway speed makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Additionally, Washington excels in pass protection—an area where Jeanty has room to improve.
