Former Tennessee coach Tony Vitello is now dealing with the strangest MLB injury situation of the summer
Former Tennessee Vols coach Tony Vitello is dealing with arguably the most bizarre injury situation of the season.
Former Tennessee Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello has dealt with plenty of unexpected situations (such as a player refusing to come out of the game) during his first season as the manager of the San Francisco Giants.
But the injury situation he’s dealing with this week may be the strangest of them all.
Giants outfielder Harrison Bader has been on the IL since late May with left plantar fasciitis. He was getting closer to a return, but that’s no longer the case after he was involved in a scooter accident over the weekend.
According to the Giants, Bader’s foot was further injured in the crash.
“Obviously, he’s not better than he was prior to that,” said Vitello. “I’ve left the rest up to everybody else, kind of sorting out the details. … There’s a chance it could delay whatever the recovery process is for him. But again, even prior to it, we’re looking at a pretty frustrating and long runway before he could get on the field again.”
This isn’t Bader’s first scooter incident.
According to ESPN, Bader was “suspended 19 games by the Florida Gators (in 2014) after he was involved in a scooter crash in which alcohol was allegedly a factor.”
I’m sure dealing with a scooter controversy wasn’t on Vitello’s bingo card when he took this job.
