The Cleveland Browns are ramping up for the 2026 NFL season this week in Berea with training camp off and running, and a potential reunion with a former pass rusher could be on the horizon. 

Cleveland is clearly searching for more pass rush help to complement players like Jared Verse, Isaiah McGuire, and Alex Wright after moving on from Myles Garrett. Their latest move shows it. 

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, free agent defensive end Jedevon Clowney is visiting the Browns today. Clowney, a 12-year NFL veteran, would give the Browns another proven option off the edge if a deal comes together.

Cleveland is clearly searching for more pass rush help to complement players like Jared Verse, Isaiah McGuire, and Alex Wright after moving on from Myles Garrett. 

Clowney’s history with the Browns is complicated

Clowney spent two years with Cleveland in 2021 and 2022, playing 16 games with the team over those two seasons. The 2021 campaign went well for Clowney when he registered nine sacks in 14 games, the second-most he’s recorded in any single NFL season. The 2022 season, however, did not go well at all. Clowney managed just two sacks in 12 games, and the end of that year brought some drama when he was essentially sent home from the team before departing in free agency.

That history makes this visit a bit of a surprise, but as they say, time can heal.

Clowney has continued to produce across the league

After his time in Cleveland, Clowney spent a year with the Baltimore Ravens and posted 9.5 sacks in 2023. He then landed with the Carolina Panthers in 2024, where he registered 5.5 sacks. Last season with the Dallas Cowboys, the 33-year-old played 13 games and totaled 41 tackles and 8.5 sacks.

Those numbers show Clowney can still contribute at a solid level, even at this stage of his career. Adding a veteran pass rusher of his caliber would give Cleveland more depth behind Verse, who the Browns are counting on to take a step in his third year.

Cleveland is still in search of a fourth pass rusher, a role that could end up belonging to McGuire or Wright if the team does add Clowney. Bringing in the veteran would give the Browns a proven rotational option and insurance behind their younger edge rushers.

It’s noteworthy news for a player not many pictured ending up back in Cleveland. But again, time can heal, and the Browns clearly need more pass rush help heading into 2026.
