Taysom Hill is officially moving on from the New Orleans Saints.
He announced via his social media accounts he is not going to return to the team he spent the last nine years playing for.
“I’ve taken time this off-season to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me,” Hill wrote. “I still don’t have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that we’re returning to New Orleans is not in the cards. As training camp begins, I didn’t want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude.
“To the city of New Orleans: thank you I had always heard, ‘If you love New Orleans New Orleans will love you back.’ That could not have been more true you exceeded every expectation I had of what it would be like to live and play in the city, the passion, loyalty, and support you showed my family and meet over these nine seasons were truly one of a kind. We will always be grateful for the way you embraced us both on and off the field!”
Taysom Hill’s unique career with the Saints comes to a close
Hill was originally an undrafted free agent signing of the Green Bay Packers, but his first real team was indeed the Saints. New Orleans signed him right at the beginning of the 2017 regular season and ever since then he has been a staple of the roster.
In 118 games, Hill made nine starts and won seven of them at quarterback. He threw for 2,426 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 63.3% of his passes. His versatility as both a pass-catcher and a quarterback transcended the Sean Payton offense and extended into the heart of the 2020s.
Perhaps Hill’s biggest impact was as a ball carrier he compiled 2,551 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns on 489 attempts.
Mickey Loomis shares statement on Hill’s decision
New Orleans Saints executive vice president and general manager Mickey Loomis shared his thoughts on Hill’s decision to move on from the Saints:
“Taysom’s career to this point as a member of the Saints organization has been remarkable in all facets. His intelligence, unique athletic ability, versatility and unselfishness have benefited this team in many facets for the past nine seasons. Additionally, he’s been a great teammate and excellent leader and mentor. We thank Taysom for all his great contributions, and we are positive that a day will come when all of his accomplishments can be properly celebrated.”
There certainly haven’t been many players like hell in the NFL and we will not see one like him on the Saints for quite some time.
