Former Clemson WR reacts to the physical changes Tennessee has made under Derek Owings while taking a shot at another Power-4 program
The Tennessee Vols hired strength coach Derek Owings away from the Indiana Hoosiers earlier this offseason.
The Tennessee Vols created some buzz this week thanks to the physical transformation the roster has made this offseason under new strength coach Derek Owings.
Owings highlighted the changes this week via posts on social media.
Former Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers, who is the son of Vols legend Tee Martin, reacted to the changes on Twitter on Thursday, while also taking a shot at Texas Tech.
Rodgers suggested that Texas Tech “doesn’t develop” after seeing the way Tennessee’s players have transformed under Owings.
Texas Tech tried to highlight some of their players’ physical changes over the last couple of years, but it was nothing like the transformation we’ve seen from Tennessee over the last six months.
Tennessee hired Owings in January after he helped Indiana win a national championship (Owings was in Knoxville the morning after the Hoosiers won the natty).
Some analysts have suggested that Tennessee landing Owings was the biggest non-head coach hire that any program made this offseason.
After seeing the results so far, it’s hard to argue against that claim.
