“It’s bulls—” – Tony Vitello is not happy, and Tennessee fans will understand why better than anyone
Former Tennessee Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello is in his first season as the manager of the San Francisco Giants.
San Francisco Giants fans got a glimpse of a side of Tony Vitello this week that doesn’t come out often.
The former Tennessee Vols baseball coach has a fiery side that doesn’t usually come out when he’s speaking with the media. But every now and then, something irks Vitello so much that he can’t help it.
And something irked Vitello this week.
During Friday night’s Apple TV broadcast of the Giants’ matchup against the San Diego Padres, play-by-play announcer Wayne Randazzo made some comments about San Francisco shortstop Willy Adames that didn’t sit well with Vitello.
““It has been a little bit harder to get Willy Adames to commit to the work, day-in and day-out, but Adames has been doing it lately,” said Randazzo.
Vitello offered a fiery retort on Saturday.
“Any questioning of anyone’s work ethic that has to work with Wash is not right,” said Vitello. “… I could give you my exact answer, but it’s bullshit is what it is. … Willy probably works harder than any offensive player we have on his swing. If anything, he could probably deduct a few swings. And that’s not a jab, it’s more of a compliment.”
Vitello is always going to stick up for his players — because he sees the day-t0-day work that fans and media don’t seen.
That response from Vitello wasn’t quite as passionate as the defense he gave of Blake Burke in 2024, but it certainly came from the same place.
