Davante Adams has big praise for promising Miami Hurricanes rookie, and it could help answer a major question from the Rams’ draft
One rookie is making an early name for himself with the future Hall of Famer and his teammates.
The Los Angeles Rams were one of the stories of the 2026 NFL Draft. Los Angeles came into the draft off a strong 2025 season that saw the team come within one game of the Super Bowl.
The Rams could have gone all in early in the draft to find help to get over the top, and one of the positions near the top of the list was wide receiver. LA needed a potential third option to go with Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, with a number of intriguing candidates on the board.
Instead, the Rams surprised everyone and selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick, a move that left a number of pundits shaking their heads and giving poor draft grades.
Miami Hurricanes rookie CJ Daniels earning praise at Rams training camp
One late-round rookie is proving early in training camp that he could be an answer for the Rams at wide receiver down the road. Miami Hurricanes wide receiver CJ Daniels, taken in the 6th round, has been off to a hot start this camp, earning high marks from a number of those in attendance witnessing his play.
That includes teammate Davante Adams, who had some strong praise for his rookie position mate.
“I’m proud of him,” Adams said. “We had a conversation right before we broke for the five-week break, and he came to me and asked what I thought he needed to work on, and we talked about a couple of small things, really. I’d seen a lot of good stuff from him during the offseason program, and he came back and did exactly those things.
“His play speed, just making plays on the football, catching the ball. I feel like when he first came in, he was — couple of playmaking opportunities where I felt like it may have been nerves. Just kind of starting back out. Whether it’s getting with a new quarterback, which I had some of those plays even, and I’ve been playing a lot longer than he has.
“So, it’s a natural thing to kind of come and not feel fully comfortable yet, and it kind of looked like it to where I could see he was moving and he had all the ability, but I just wanted him to play like he belonged, and this camp he’s been showing that.”
It’s early in the process, and there’s a long way to go for Daniels to find his place on the 53-man roster and carve out a role for himself. However, if he can build upon this early momentum, then perhaps the Rams found someone in the 2026 draft after all who could be a potential solution for them down the road.
We’ll see how it all plays out as training camp rolls on, but the early returns on Daniels are worth monitoring for a Los Angeles team still searching for long-term answers in its receiving corps.
