The Buffalo Bills’ latest blockbuster contract is looking like a bargain already
The Buffalo Bills didn’t even see the dust settle from their new extension and it’s already looking more like a bargain.
The Buffalo Bills‘ offensive line has been a major engine for their successes throughout this competitive run.
Buffalo has had one of the most consistently healthy and available offensive line units in all of football. So when David Edwards left this offseason in free agency, the stability of the rest of the group became that much more important. Enter the O’Cyrus Torrence extension. The Bills struck a deal with Torrence on a four-year, $78.4 million extension — and within hours it looked like a bargain.
The Buffalo Bills’ O’Cyrus Torrence deal looks like a steal already
Earlier this summer we saw Falcons guard Matthew Bergeron land a four-year, $96 million deal. Torrence agreed to terms on his deal with the Bills and, in the same day, Tennessee Titans guard Peter Skoronski secured a $100 million contract. Guards are getting paid like nobody’s business right now. Here’s the most impressive number about the Torrence contract in comparison to the Skoronski deal:
Torrence’s reported terms included $46 million in guarantees, while Skoronski’s reported guarantee number is nearly twice that at $88 million. That’s a whopping difference for a pair of competitive guard deals that are both four years in length.
Matthew Bergeron’s previously mentioned extension was also four years in length. And he got $60 million in guarantees. Torrence should feel great about the terms of his deal. He’s competitively paid and, most important, he’s giving the Bills more continuity on the line of scrimmage after losing Edwards. Then there’s where the Bills should feel best: this deal is looking better by the hour at the rate we’re getting these other signings.
