That clip of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is making the rounds again, but it doesn’t tell the story that his haters think it does.
A viral clip from 2024 is making the rounds again, and it’s being used in an attempt to make Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen look like a stat-padder.
The narrative is ridiculous, and anyone pushing it (most Ravens fans it seems) is reaching for something that isn’t there.
As the never-ending debate over the best quarterback in the NFL continues to rage, fans of certain teams (Ravens fans) have latched onto this clip to argue that Allen pads his stats.
The clip comes from a 2024 game when Allen threw a shovel pass to wide receiver Khalil Shakir instead of handing the ball off. The play resulted in a touchdown, but because it was a shovel pass, it was credited as a passing touchdown for Allen rather than a rushing touchdown.
After the play, NFL Films captured a sideline interaction between Allen and some of his teammates. One teammate asked Shakir if Allen had called for the pitch in the huddle, and Shakir said Allen told him it was his call.
The next scene showed Allen talking to an offensive lineman, who said, “I thought that was supposed to be a handoff.”
Allen responded that he asked Shakir what he wanted.
The offensive lineman sarcastically replied, “Sure,” to which Allen pointed out that he’d already given the offensive line two rushing touchdowns that day. The two laughed about it, and the offensive lineman said, “I love you,” to Allen.
That’s it. That’s the clip. Just teammates having fun on the sideline after scoring a touchdown.
The people throwing shade at Josh Allen are twisting the narrative
The people (Ravens fans) trying to throw shade at Allen are attempting to frame the clip as though his teammates were frustrated that he used a shovel pass to pad his stats, but that narrative falls apart if you actually watch the clip.
It’s hard to imagine that play being a source of legitimate frustration among Bills players. Allen is one of the best players in the NFL. He puts his body on the line constantly to score in the red zone. Not to mention that Allen is one of the best dudes in the league, and his teammates love him.
The narratives going around lately trying to kill his character are just ridiculous.
