Oklahoma Sooners can massively hurt the Michigan Wolverines in ways that go far beyond what the scoreboard will say in Week 2
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to play Michigan this week, but they could end up showing recruits on a visit to Ann Arbor that OU is a much better school.
The Oklahoma Sooners are getting ready to play a team they faced this time last year. This time, they are visiting the Michigan Wolverines in Week 2 rather than hosting. But this game is different for more reasons than that. Playing on the road comes with the same challenges as hosting, but for the other team.
When Michigan was in Norman last season, OU used it to get a massive recruiting momentum boost. The GameDay atmosphere was crazy. They held gameday visits, and it showed recruits that OU is a place they want to be. Now, Michigan is hosting GameDay visits to recruits in Week 2. They are using Oklahoma to show recruits they should choose Michigan. Brent Venables and company can completely change that.
Sooners will have a lot of recruits’ eyes on them vs. Michigan
College football recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong recently revealed every single recruit that’s going to be at the game. Here’s what he said:
“First-year coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff will be excited to see most of their 2027 recruiting class, which the Rivals Industry Rankings rank No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in the Big Ten. Class jewels in offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey, receiver Quentin Burrell, cornerback Monsanna Torbert, defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad, quarterback Kamen Lopati, and safety Tavares Harrington are all set to return.
“Four-star edge rusher Ifeanyi Emedobi will also return, as will four-star cornerbacks Blake Jenkins and Darius Johnson, offensive lineman Louis Esposito, safety Charles Woodson Jr., and running back Lundon Hampton. Whittingham and company are also positioned for a terrific 2028 recruiting class. They’ll look to make an impression on several of the state’s best who are expected back in Ann Arbor. That includes the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle, Antijuan Wilkes Jr.; the No. 7 receiver in the country, Deandre Bidden; and in-state safety Lamarcus Army.”
Now, the Sooners could do some real damage to the Wolverines on Saturday. Just think: They barely beat Western Michigan last week. To be honest, the entire country is counting it as a loss. This team looks bad, very bad. So, the Sooners should win this game. Of course, we all know how weird things get in college football from time to time. However, this game should be in the bag for OU.
If they go to Ann Arbor and they completely annihilate the Wolverines, it could really hurt Michigan’s recruiting. Those recruits will see Michigan. If they’re going to see them, that means they’re probably considering Michigan. If OU wins and beats them badly, it could make them stray away from selecting them. Or it couldn’t. Either way, the Sooners could do some real damage to Michigan’s recruiting. And, who knows, maybe it makes some recruits in the 2028 class start to get a little curious about what Venables is building.
