ESPN’s Greg McElroy reveals how he’s feeling about the Tennessee Vols through the first two weeks of the season
The Tennessee Volunteers are 2-0 following their 45-24 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta on Saturday night.
The Tennessee Vols are off to a 2-0 start for the fifth straight season.
Tennessee handled business on the road this past Saturday night in a 45-24 win over Georgia Tech.
The Vols will take on Kennesaw State on Saturday night in Knoxville before hosting the Texas Longhorns for a huge matchup on September 26.
ESPN’s Greg McElroy shares early thoughts on Tennessee
ESPN’s Greg McElroy shared some early thoughts on the Volunteers while reviewing the action from Week 2 on Always College Football.
“Faizon Brandon threw it 21 times for 148 yards, but Tennessee won by three touchdowns because the Vols ran it 45 times,” said McElroy. “Think about this: 45 carries, 299 yards, 6.6 yards a carry. DeSean Bishop carried it 21 times for 147 yards and had a 30-yard touchdown.
“[Tennessee was] down 10-7 after the first quarter. A sold out Bobby Dodd Stadium and Tennessee hung 17 points on the Jackets inside the first 11 minutes in the second quarter. So, I was very impressed to see them flip the switch. This team’s got a lot of explosives. I like what I’ve seen from Tennessee so far in the first couple weeks.”
McElroy was one of the few in the national media who was high on the Vols going into the season, so it’s no surprise that he likes what he’s seen from Tennessee through the first two weeks.
“It might be worth keeping a slightly closer eye on Tennessee because I think they are flying under the radar in a really big way,” said McElroy in August. “And I did not love some of the things that Tennessee did at times last year — especially on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem this year. I think they’re going to be pretty dang tough out. If you look at their schedule, I know it’s tough one. It’s always a tough schedule, and the SEC with nine conference games is going to be a beast. But it’s time to start waking up to the possibility that Tennessee might be pretty good. Because they are right now not being talked about nearly enough, in my opinion.”
We’re still learning a lot about who this Tennessee team is going to be this season, but it’s certainly a good start so far.
We’ll learn a lot more about the Vols on September 26 when they welcome No. 1 Texas to Neyland Stadium.
