Tennessee received some off-the-field news before the Texas game that is making Vols fans very happy
The Tennessee Volunteers received some big recruiting news ahead of a key matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
Tennessee received some recruiting news this week that is sure to please Vols fans.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, the Vols are set to host 2028 four-star defensive lineman Dawson Jacobs on a recruiting visit on Saturday for the game against Texas.
Dawson is the younger brother of 2027 five-star defensive lineman DJ Jacobs, an Ohio State commit who Tennessee is trying to flip.
Wiltfong noted that DJ will be at Tennessee on Saturday with Dawson.
“Jacobs will be joined by his older brother DJ Jacobs, the nation’s top edge rusher in the 2027 class who is committed to Ohio State,” wrote Wiltfong.
Dawson and DJ’s father played for Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner at Georgia over two decades ago. That relationship — the elder Jacobs says Garner is like a father to him — has kept the door open for Tennessee in the battle for DJ.
But for now, the Jacobs family maintains that DJ is solidly committed to Ohio State and that Saturday’s visit is only about Dawson.
“DJ is straightforward telling those people he’s locked in with Ohio State,” said Jacobs’ father to On3. “He tells those coaches straight up. I don’t see nobody else out there like (Ohio State). Until he signs he hasn’t signed but I don’t see him looking nowhere else.”
It sounds like Tennessee still has an uphill climb ahead if they’re going to flip DJ, but getting him on campus for a huge game against Texas can only help (it’ll help even more if the Vols beat the Longhorns).
