Lions make 3 roster moves before Jets game as another injury makes Detroit’s safety situation even more concerning
Detroit elevated two defenders from the practice squad Saturday, but another safety landing on injured reserve may be the most significant development.
The Detroit Lions are back home on Sunday to play against the New York Jets and their former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Before the game, the Lions are making some roster moves that they need to make. Here’s what they did:
Elevated safety Jalen Mills from the practice squad
The Lions are so light at safety right now, with both Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch out. Plus, Avonte Maddox’s season-ending injury makes them even lighter. Bringing Mills up for this game makes a ton of sense since he played here last season and has an understanding of what the defense is trying to get done.
Elevated linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga from the practice squad
The Lions are bringing up Ogbongbemiga from the practice squad for the first time. He had a pretty good summer on special teams. You’d expect that’s what he’ll do Sunday.
Placed Thomas Harper on IR
Man, this makes the Lions’ safety situation even harder. Don’t be surprised if the Lions hit the market looking for help there as soon as possible.
