Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian thinks Tennessee may have done something illegal during the Longhorns’ 20-17 win over the Vols.
Tennessee had a chance to tie or take the lead late in the fourth quarter thanks to an onside kick that the Vols recovered.
The onside kick was a drop kick, and Sarkisian wants to check the rule.
It seems that Sarkisian’s question is about whether it was legal for Jackson Ross to take a step before kicking the ball.
Onside kicks are incredibly difficult to recover. If what we saw from Ross turns out to be completely legal, then that’s a big weapon moving forward. If it’s not legal, then officials will be cracking down on it.
We should find out this week if it was indeed a legal play.
By the way, Ross said after the game that it was the first onside kick he’s ever attempted.
