Cowboys vs Ravens gets huge injury update that significantly alters the gameplan for both sides in Rio de Janeiro

The Dallas Cowboys finally got an answer to the biggest mystery heading into their matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. And no, I’m not talking about the field conditions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Ninety minutes before gametime, the Ravens announced wide receiver Zay Flowers is ACTIVE. The news is massive after Flowers practiced for the first time in limited fashion on Friday. For the Cowboys defense, it complicates their chances to win on Sunday.
With Flowers in the lineup, the Cowboys can expect a lot more 11 personnel (three wide receivers) groupings from Baltimore. In a game in which the Cowboys could benefit from loading the box to deter Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry’s rushing attack, Dallas will likely be forced to stay in nickel for a large portion of the game.
The biggest problem with that is the Cowboys are down multiple players in the secondary, including starting cornerback Cobie Durant and safeties Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke.
The Ravens want and will do their best to run the football. But Flowers should open up the passing game in a significant way. It remains to be seen whether or not he’ll be in a snap count.
The injury news turns up the pressure for Cowboys DC Christian Parker, who is looking to slow down one of the most dangerous offenses in football.

Notes on Cowboys inactives
- Backup safety P.J. Locke isn’t on the above list because he was placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday. He must miss a minimum four games as a result.
- Hooker’s injury hurts, especially now that Locke is out. The Cowboys will be forced to either play Downs at safety or go with one of Markquese Bell, Alijah Clark, or Reddy Steward (a practice squad callup with nickel/safety versatility).
- CB Cobie Durant being out means the Cowboys will put Shavon Revel Jr. to the test. The second-year cornerback had a strong training camp and is known as more of a man coverage specialist.
- Overshown misses his second game of the season, which means once again, all eyes are on rookie Jaishawn Barham. He had a strong performance in Week 2 including four stops, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble.
- The Cowboys are shaking it up at running back, with Demercado being a healthy scratch. Tyler Goodson is active instead. Goodson was poached by Dallas from the Atlanta Falcons practice squad last week.
