After a 2-0 start, the Philadelphia Eagles just got exposed on Monday Night Football. That game was not close. The Chicago Bears ran away with it in the second half with their third-string quarterback, and now the Eagles have some serious questions to answer heading into Week 4. The winners and losers from Monday night paint a clear picture of where Philadelphia stands through three weeks of the 2025 season.

Winners

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley has to be the first name on the winners list. That first half looked like 2024 Saquon Barkley. He was up and down the football field, explosive, finding holes in the ground game, making people miss, and getting vertical. It was exactly what you wanted to see from him.

The second half wasn’t on Barkley. If you’re not getting touches and the holes aren’t open, it’s hard to pin any of that on the running back. It’s very clear that when he has the ball in his hands, he still has every bit of juice we saw in 2024 and in bits and pieces throughout 2025.

DeVonta Smith

DeVonta Smith also had an incredible showing in the first half. He climbed the ladder, made a few spectacular catches, and was the most reliable player in the Eagles’ pass-catching unit. That says a lot, because the Bears and every other team know Smith is Philadelphia’s No. 1, and he was still making plays against that attention. Dontayvion Wicks did have some good catches as well, but Smith was the clear standout on the perimeter.

Losers

Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton has to top this list. Jalen Hurts left the game for four plays while dealing with what were described as concussion-like symptoms, and Dalton decided to throw an interception that looked like Cam Ward on Sunday against the New York Giants. A horrible decision, especially in that down and distance on the goal line. You’re a veteran quarterback. The last thing you need to be doing is playing hero ball when you know that if Hurts is in there, Philadelphia is probably just tush pushing its way to a touchdown. A total brain-dead move from a player who knows better.

Makai Lemon

Makai Lemon is another tough one. Through three weeks, he certainly has not looked like what the Eagles hoped when they spent a first-round pick on a wide receiver. A slow training camp and preseason because of injury may explain some of it, but Monday night didn’t show anything reminiscent of a No. 1 wide receiver. He got open on a man-coverage over route and Hurts couldn’t get the ball to him because of pressure, but beyond that, there wasn’t much.

He’s not fast, he’s not big, and he doesn’t make a ton of good plays in space. Philadelphia tried to manufacture touches for him, and when they did, Zach Ertz missed a block and Lemon got blown up. The early returns are not good. A lot can change, but right now it doesn’t look promising, after three weeks that have resulted in 7 total catches.

Secondary

The secondary was a major problem. Andrew Mukuba struggled. Blown coverages, receivers running open, catches made over the top of Eagles defenders, and multiple chances to pick off Case Keenum that they failed to convert. The back end of the defense simply didn’t get the job done.

Vic Fangio

Vic Fangio deserves a share of the blame for that secondary’s performance and more. One of the best defensive minds to ever coach in the NFL let a third-string quarterback in Keenum, who hadn’t started a game in over 1,000 days since 2023, go out on Monday night and look like a serviceable NFL starter. It’s one thing if it’s Tyson Bagent. It’s a completely different thing if it’s Caleb Williams. Ben Johnson thoroughly outcoached Fangio, and that Eagles defense looked like Swiss cheese at times. It should not have been that easy for a 38-year-old quarterback who hadn’t started in three years.

Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts is the final loser, and it’s a tough one to write because he looked like he was going to be the biggest winner of the game in the first half. He was completely flat in the second half, took some sacks, got himself into pressure, and threw a horrible interception that essentially ended any chance at a comeback. Maybe he actually was dealing with some concussion-like symptoms toward the end, but it wasn’t pretty for Hurts, and it certainly wasn’t pretty for the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
