The Miami Dolphins will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 of the 2026 season. And, ahead of the matchup, the Vikings are pulling one of the oldest tricks in the book.
Competitive edges in the NFL are everywhere if you squint hard enough. Some of them may ultimately help. Many of them probably don’t. But the Miami Dolphins‘ Week 4 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, are calling upon one of the classic moves just ahead of this week’s game.
It’s a certainty in life: death, taxes, and a team signing a former player of an opponent just before the game. The Vikings just added someone that spent months of this year in Miami’s building.

Ah, yes! The classic ‘sign your former player to the practice squad the week of our game’ maneuver. It’s become a classic maneuver for teams desperate to squeeze any and all information possible out of their prep for a game. And given the ‘uncommon opponent’ layer between the Vikings and Dolphins, it’s understandable for both times to be seeking an edge.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t ties between the two franchises. You don’t need to look any further than Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who served as the Dolphins’ head coach for three seasons from 2019-2021. Flores’ tenure with the team ended with…lets just say ‘hard feelings’. It won’t be the first time the Dolphins face Flores on an opposing sideline since moving on. But the connection between Flores and Miami won’t help the Vikings much — defensive tackle Zach Sieler and offensive tackle Austin Jackson are the only two players left from his time with the team.
Josh Priebe on the other hand? He spent the offseason program and the preseason in Miami — so he will have some basic insight into the rules and calls that Miami may use to operate at the line of scrimmage. Perhaps the Vikings really have interest in developing Priebe. But we’ve seen this move enough times to know they’ll need to prove it instead of getting the benefit of the doubt.
