Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is standing on business when it comes to a head-scratching decision he made
The Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 30-27, but still showed they are a legit team.
The Las Vegas Raiders fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, 30-27. And while everyone is walking away from this game feeling good about the Raiders, you don’t want them to accept any moral victories. That’s especially true when you factor in that this team beat itself more than the Chiefs beat it.
Not only did the Raiders have a chance to win or tie at the end, but they should have already been up, or at least tied. There was a fourth-down moment when Klint Kubiak had the field goal unit out for a field goal. Then the fourth down became a fourth-and-two after a penalty. He had the offense go for it, and they, of course, did not convert. That could have been three more points. So, why did the Raiders do that?
“I took three points off the board, and we were going to be aggressive going into the game. I don’t regret it. I regret not getting it,” head coach Klint Kubiak told reporters after the game.
Kubiak is standing on business. And he should. He called one heck of a game as a rookie head coach, and if that and the final play are the only things he messed up, the Raiders are in good hands.
Raiders should be able to bounce back from loss to the Chiefs
The Raiders were always in this game. Not only that, for most of the game, it felt obvious they were the better team. They were leading at the half. Not only that, but as soon as the team goes down by 11, they saddle up and march down the field.
Then came the final play of the game. Kubiak said after that he didn’t do a good enough job getting the play call through to the QB. He took the blame. That’s one of his first-ever rookie head coaching mistakes. He’ll learn from it. This was a game where if just a few more things went their way, or even a few things didn’t go the Chiefs’ way, they would win this game. They have to be happy about that. This team could easily be a postseason contender this year. And you better believe that Kubiak will want that Week 18 game more than anything.
